Natural 29p solution ‘loosens grease and grime’ on oven racks, claims expert

Cleaning ovens is an unpleasant task that usually requires strong chemicals and elbow grease.

However, with the cost of living crisis, cleaning chemicals and sprays can be expensive.

Now, appliance experts at RGBDirect have shared their advice on how to clean oven racks with natural, cupboard staples so your oven is sparkling before Christmas.

The experts said: “Cleaning your oven and racks to get them ready for Christmas Day can be a bit of a chore, but it’s important to ensure your holiday meal preparation goes smoothly.”

You will need:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Water
  • Vinegar
  • A scrubbing brush or sponge

Express uses baking soda to remove grease from oven racks


Fill a large tub or a bath with hot water and add a few cups of white vinegar.

The experts continued: “Submerge the oven racks in the tub and let them soak for a few hours or overnight.

“This will help to loosen the grease and grime.”

After soaking, use a scrubbing brush, steel wool or a sponge to remove any remaining residue from the oven racks. Then, rinse them thoroughly.

White vinegar is great for cleaning because it contains around five percent acetic acid.

The acid can help to break down dirt, oils, stains and bacteria as well as neutralise unpleasant smells.

Tesco Distilled Vinegar costs 29p and Sainsbury’s Distilled Vinegar costs 40p.

White vinegar can be mixed with baking soda to create an even more effective cleaning solution.

The baking soda and vinegar release carbon dioxide gas which can help to remove dirt and grime.
