Child Benefit payment dates will change this month for some people due to this reason

Child Benefit is usually paid every four weeks, and this is either on a Monday or Tuesday. However, with the Spring Bank Holiday falling on Monday, May 25, some will see their payment affected.

In situations when the Bank Holiday falls on the payment date, then it is paid on a different date.

Instead, it will usually be paid early, most likely on the first working day prior to when it was due.

The website confirms that if the due date for the payment was on May 25, 2020, then the payment date will instead be on May 22.

In 2020, this date falls on a Friday, meaning some will be paid in the week prior to when they may have been expecting.

It’s possible to work out when a person will get their next Child Benefit payment.

This can be done by counting forwards by four weeks from the last payment.

However, it’s important to note that this method won’t work if the payment was due on a bank holiday.

“Don’t count forward if your payment was due on a bank holiday – the dates are different,” states.

While the payment will be every four weeks in most cases, some people can get Child Benefit paid weekly, such as if they’re a single parent or if the individual or their partner is getting certain benefits, such as Income Support.

It’s possible for eligible people to claim the payment as soon as they’ve registered the birth of their child, or they come to live with them.

During the coronavirus crisis, the rules have changed.

Currently, if a person isn’t able to register the birth of their child because of coroanvirus (COVID-19), then they can still make a claim for the payment.

It’s important to be aware that it can take up to 12 weeks in order to process a new Child Benefit claim – and for those new to the UK, this may be even longer.

The payment can however be backdated for up to three months.

How much is Child Benefit?

There are two different Child Benefit rates, and the payment amount will depend on who the allowance is for.

Should it be for an eldest or only child, then they will get the weekly rate of £21.05.

However, for any additional children, the rate is lower.

Instead, the allowance is £13.95 per child, per week.

It’s also important to be aware that the benefit cap may affect the total amount of benefits a person gets, and this does include Child Benefit.
