Clean My Space is an online cleaning platform created by a self-proclaimed hater of cleaning. Melissa Maker, the founder who dubs herself the “accidental cleaning expert”, runs a cleaning business in Toronto, Canada, and uploads videos online to help others clean their homes quickly.

Recently the influencer, who boasts 120k Instagram followers and a whopping 1.85m subscribers on YouTube, detailed a number of baking soda cleaning hacks to have your home sparkling.

Baking soda is a cheap product that works wonders on your home.

The cleaning pro said in a recent YouTube video: “Baking Soda is one of the most useful cleaning substances on the planet, whether you’re looking to deodorize an area, or add abrasion to a cleaning solution, brighten and whiten almost anything or wash, scour and clean a bunch of things around your home!”

She told viewers baking soda is her “favourite inexpensive cleaning product”.

One tip will provide a cleaner with an “HD glass cleaner” the cleaning guru said, ideal for mirrors or cleaning windows.

The tip is perfect for removing “stickiness” or “residue” from glass surfaces.

Melissa recommends dampening a microfibre cloth and sprinkling a teaspoon of baking soda.

Use an “S pattern” from the top to the bottom of the mirror.

Then, give the glass one “rinsing” wipe down to remove baking soda residue.

Cleaners can then treat the glass with their glass cleaner, Melissa suggests vinegar and water with a microfibre cloth.

She said: “The baking soda, that first step, is going to help to lift off any of that sticky stuff that would otherwise make your glass dirty and look or feel streaky.”

Why is baking soda such an efficient cleaner? First, the product absorbs orders.

It can be placed in a fridge or even in shoes to help prevent bad smells.

The product is also abrasive, helping to lift dirt away when scrubbed onto surfaces.

What cleaning jobs can baking soda be used for?

Whitening laundry

Add 110g of it to your normal laundry detergent to help keep your whites bright.

Kitchen cleaner

Mixing it with lemon or vinegar creates a baste which can clean all sorts of surfaces in the home.

This includes countertops, microwaves, and even ovens.

Stain remover

You can remove stains from the carpet with baking soda and vinegar too. Sprinkle baking soda on a stain and spray the area with a 50/50 water, vinegar mix.

When dry, srub the area and vacuum up the baking soda.

Another cleaning guru, Gemma Bray, who is behind The Organised Mum, posted a video of an Oxo cube trick which fans dubbed a “game-changer”.

The video shows the housework influencer handling a beef Oxo Cube. She unfolds the sides of the cube gently, without tearing it.

She pulls out the folds on the sides of the cube and then teases out the foil at the sides, turning the packet into a square shape.

Gemma then squeezes the packet, leaving her with a powder in a small bag.
