Amazon Echo price slashed by £20 in Bank Holiday sale – now just £69.99

AMAZON has knocked a chunk of cash off the price of its flagship Echo smart speaker.

The Alexa-powered device has been discounted by £20 as part of today's Amazon Bank Holiday Sale.

It means instead of paying the full £89.99 price, you'll pay just £69.99 instead.

Amazon has never sold the Echo for below £69.99, so this is definitely a good price.

And according to our price tracker, the average selling price for the Amazon Echo is £82.67.

That means you're saving at least £12.68 with this deal.

There's only one catch: this is a limited-time offer.

You'll only be able to bag the discounted price between 9am on August 22 through to 9am on August 30.

The good news is that the deal is available to anyone – not just Prime members, like last month's Prime Day.

What is Alexa?

If you’ve never heard of Alexa, here’s what you need to know…

  • Alexa is an "intelligent" personal assistant built by Amazon.
  • You can find her on several different devices, including Amazon's Echo speakers.
  • Alexa responds to voice commands, and can talk back to you.
  • She can perform thousands of different tasks, including telling you about the news or weather.
  • But she can do more complex things too, like ordering a pizza or arranging an Uber taxi pick-up.
  • To activate Alexa, you need to say "Alexa" to an Amazon Echo speaker.
  • Alexa currently only works in English and German languages.
  • Because she's powered by artificial intelligence, Alexa is constantly getting smarter.
  • Alexa will also get more used to your voice, and better understand what you want her to do over time.

So what is the Amazon Echo?

It's a smart speaker that you control using your voice.

Simply say commands out loud using the wake word "Alexa", and she'll respond and help you out.

This can be anything from finding out the height of Mount Everest to making a phone call to another Amazon Echo speaker.

Of course, the Amazon Echo also works as a plain old speaker too, so you can use her for playing music or listening to the radio.

If you get multiple Amazon Echo speakers, they'll work in sync – letting you play music in sync throughout your home.

And you can also use Amazon's drop-in feature to use your Echo network as an intercom.
