Menopause: Essity reveals some of the 62 common symptoms
Dr Katie Hodgson, a registered GP and founder of Health and Hormones, speaking on behalf of leading ethical nutrition and supplement brand DR.VEGAN said, said on average, women will experience 10 different symptoms of menopause.
One in five women going through menopause will experience the sensation of insects crawling on or under their skin.
Dr Hodgson said: “The strangest thing is, it’s simply a ‘tactile hallucination’, meaning they’re feeling a physical sensation with no physical cause.”
The symptom can cause a “mild or severe itch” that many people would consider as annoying.
Dr Hodgson added that a burning tongue could occur “due to the activation of pain-sensitive nerve cells surrounding the taste buds in the tongue”.

She explained: “This can lead to clumsiness, especially when combined with the dry eyes and reduced concentration levels also often experienced by women going through menopause.”
