Here are the best hotels on Maui, sorted by price from low to high

Centrally-located apartment in Paia

Book this Maui apartment on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $125

Sleeps: 4 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 4.71

This functional apartment in Paia is ideal for visitors who want to stay in the heart of the North Shore while enjoying easy access to island-wide attractions. It’s tucked away from the typical tourist paths, yet surrounded by great beach parks, eateries, and funky independent shops.

The home is infused with a fun, beachy vibe thanks to handmade driftwood furnishings, and elements of sleek glass, natural stone, and tile. The apartment has air conditioning, a rare commodity on the island, and there’s plenty of room to spread out at the dining table if you need to check in with work while traveling.

A small shaded outdoor space is a nice place to sip something refreshing and watch the sunset, but for the most part, the location is the standout feature. It’s well-located to grab a fresh coffee and shave ice in Paia, followed by catching a wave in Paia Bay, and spotting sea turtles. If you dare, there’s a clothing-optional secret beach next door, and the North Shore winds are great for a nearby kiteboarding lesson.

Studio with a pool off Napili Bay

Book this Maui studio on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $132

Sleeps: 2 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 5.0

Recently remodeled, this studio is compact, but every inch is detailed with a personalized touch from a convenient kitchen herb garden to tropical plants and flowers on the lanai. Modern design accents are combined with form and function, so you’ll have every amenity required for the perfect beach getaway including beach towels and guest snorkel gear.

Grab a barstool and dine on takeout comfortably at the large kitchen island, or head outdoors for a picnic on the lush lawn canopied by palm trees.

The small lanai, or balcony, is ideal for sipping on morning java and sneaking in an ocean view, and there’s also a modest pool on-site for quick dips in the afternoon sun. More likely, you’ll spend most of your waking hours catching waves to surf at Napili Bay or snorkeling at neighboring Kapalua Bay. The Kapalua Coastal Trail is also nearby for a casual hike, as is the volcanic rock along the Dragon’s Teeth access trail.

Guest suite with a great location in Lahaina

Book this Maui guest suite on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $149

Sleeps: 2 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 4.95

Lahaina is one of those towns that you just fall in love with during a visit. Front Street is lined with shops and bars, amazing eateries and coffee joints, and so many inviting art galleries. Then in the middle of everything is the largest banyan tree in the world, planted in 1873. The park may look like it’s populated with dozens of trees, but it’s really just one monstrous winding tree.

This Lahaina guest suite is a great place to stay if you want to maximize your time in town. The upper-level dwelling has a private entrance and has a work desk and parsons chair in the main living space, and the kitchen island is fitted with cozy-looking barstools. A furnished lanai is accessible from the bedroom so morning coffee can be enjoyed in PJs.

This little abode only has a small cooktop and microwave, but you likely won’t be eating at home much with all the fresh seafood catches and scrumptious loco moco to be found along Front Street.

Studio rental in Hana

Book this Maui studio on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $185

Sleeps: 4 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 4.70

The “Road to Hana” is one of the most popular day trips when visiting Maui, and it can take a long, tiring day. This incredible driving route leads sightseers through a maze of one-lane bridges, rocky switchback curves, and waterfalls along a scenic 45-mile route. That may seem a short distance, but those challenging driving conditions mean you’ll be constantly hovering at a super slow speed.

After that drive, and instead of turning around, opt to spend the night, ideally in this lovely studio. While you could spend more for a bit of luxury, this home has a King-size bed, kitchenette with the basics, and a backyard barbeque. It’s funky, functional, and if you like cats all the better, as you’ll likely meet the host’s friendly orange kittens. The bathroom is private, but outdoors, so you’ll have to be comfortable with that, though, there’s nothing quite as refreshing as an outdoor shower amid nature.

Plus, you’ll be able to stay and explore Hana’s plentiful delights, including a lava tube created by an underground lava river, a rocky sea cave leading to a black sand beach, and some seriously good food trucks lined along the beach.

A spacious condo in Wailea

Book this Maui condo on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $233

Sleeps: 4 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 5.0

Fall in love with the modern aesthetic of this vacation rental with contemporary dropdown pendant lighting, colorful wall art, and midcentury furnishings. Of course, there’s also a lanai with plenty of seating, and the high vaulted, beamed ceilings impress from the the first moment you enter. There’s also a dedicated workspace, spa-like shower, and a full kitchen.

While most rentals lack the ritz associated with larger hotels, there are many amenities you’d find at a resort, such as two on-site pools. Water views also abound throughout the home, so you’ll always sense the salty sea breeze during your island getaway.

Located in Wailea, this condo is in a great location for dining at chef-driven eateries or heading inland for a challenging hike. Plus, the south Maui shoreline is just a heartbeat away, as are lush tropical gardens and golf courses.

Farm stay in a private cabin in Makawao

Book this Maui cabin on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $270

Sleeps: 4 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 4.97

While you’ll find plenty of standard apartments or condos on Maui, a farm stay such as this provides a more memorable experience.

This quaint private cabin is located on a 20-acre shade-grown coffee plantation that borders a forest preserve. A swimmable freshwater stream runs through the property and there are panoramic views of the ocean, jungle, mountain, and waterfalls. If you’re a bean aficionado, you can even take a free personalized tour of the farm and grounds, which includes a short hike to see the ancient Hawaiian pictographs, private trails, natural pools, and picnic areas.

The cabin itself is a single-level, open concept dwelling with Asian-inspired art, prints, and furnishings. There are also gilded mirrors, dramatic ceilings, and a lovely deck that all come together to feel wholly unique compared to the more typical beach decor found in area condos.

There’s also a washer, dryer, dishwasher, smart TV, and full kitchen. Ample windows bring in sea breezes and even the shower comes with an ocean view. Outside, guests have fresh flower, fruit, and herb picking privileges, and while you’ll feel completely removed from society, it’s only a short trip to area eateries.

An oceanfront penthouse in Kihei

Book this Maui penthouse on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $300

Sleeps: 3 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 4.89

You’ll catch the best sunsets from this top-floor oceanfront condo in laidback beach town Kihei. While supreme paddleboarding is right outside your door at Cove Beach, it’s also a quick drive to the North Shore to surf or sample wine in Upcountry.

This vacation rental exudes strong tropical beach vibes thanks to island-inspired decor, including carved wood adornments and a palette of pastel colors. There’s a private lanai, stocked kitchen, and simply stunning ocean views.

The condo is also steps to a secluded beach and within walking distance to Kihei’s best restaurants and shave ice vendors. There’s a great coffee roaster down the street serving 100% Maui beans, so pick these up and enjoy your morning cup as you lounge on the terrace watching the sun rise over the mountains.

Bamboo temple in Huelo

Book this Maui temple on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $369

Sleeps: 2 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 4.76

For something completely different, this bamboo temple retreat focuses on holistic healthy living, with organic produce grown on-site and coconut kefir made by the community. Essential oils are used to clean and freshen the temple, which is geometrically shaped in reflection of the nautilus shell and credited for bringing inner harmony. Guests are welcome to partake in yoga or meditative sessions, sip tea on a private lanai, or simply watch rainbows above the water as you decompress in this blissful, private space. The temple is small but immersion with the outdoors is encouraged and guests will find the most space in the lush gardens surrounding the home.

There is also a bamboo four-poster bed and a skylight above, a small kitchen, and dining area. Outside, take in views of the Hana coastline or watch the ocean waves as you bathe in the rinse off in the outdoor shower.

When you’re ready to explore, hit the challenging nearby hiking trail to head down to the ocean or stroll along Hoalua Stream and wind your way to waterfalls. If you seek even more adrenaline, there’s a well-known zipline course just a few miles away.

Luxury bed & breakfast in Ka'anapali

Book this Maui B&B on Airbnb

Typical starting price: $432

Sleeps: 2 guests/1 bedroom

Rating: 5.0

With its wide stretches of light golden sand and clear blue water, the Ka’anapali Beach district is pretty much the gold standard for vacation dreams on Maui.

This B&B makes it easy to enjoy those offerings alongside luxe resort-style amenities. The guest rental is one of only two at the property, so if you are traveling with a few friends or a multi-gen family, you could opt to book both dwellings for an extensive whole-property experience. Each suite has its own private entrance, and guests have access to a heated pool and hot tub, outdoor dining with a barbeque and pizza oven, and a spa-like tub. Other details include a rain shower, interiors blending modern tile and sleek grainy wood, a private outdoor space with an outdoor shower and sun loungers, and daily breakfast served poolside.

Guests may also use outdoor workout equipment, tee up at the neighboring golf course, or head down the access walkway to challenge themselves with a surf lesson.

If you don’t want to miss out on luxury resort amenities but prefer the private setting of a home, consider this oceanfront villa rental at Hyatt Residence Club. Staying here comes with access to four glittering pools, a waterslide, restaurants and bars, and an on-site spa.

FAQ: Maui Airbnbs

What is there to do on Maui?

No two days are the same on the Valley Isle. Visitors can explore lava rocks, watch the sunrise atop an impressive volcano summit, hike through rainforests, swim below waterfalls, or soak up the sun along more than 30 miles of publicly accessible beaches.

As the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands, Maui’s towns are also hopping with activity and known for an array of independent boutiques and eateries.

What is the best area to stay in Maui on Airbnb?

You can’t go wrong staying anywhere on Maui, as the island isn’t all that big. From one side to the other, it’s just a few hours’ drive. Try to pick an area that resonates with what you want to do most.

For scenic hikes and spacious lava rock beaches, stay on the southeast side around Hana. For pristine beaches and amazing eateries, head to West Maui’s shoreline. Or, stay in Kihei to be centrally located to absolutely everything.

How much does an Airbnb cost on Maui?

In low season, it’s possible to grab a vacation rental on Airbnb for a little more than a hundred bucks, but Maui is always in demand, so anticipate paying closer to $200 per night, though more luxurious spaces creep upward of course.

However, Maui resort prices typically start closer to $300 per night at the low end, and an Airbnb may be better for your bottom line, even with cleaning and service fees.

Outside of that, be sure to plan a food and drink budget. With so many culinary temptations around the island, it’s easy to overspend.

What’s a good time of year to visit Maui?

Any time, every time. Maui has a tropical climate, so it won’t get too cold even in the winter. Daytime lows in winter may hover around 70 or 73 degrees Fahrenheit, but summer heats up nicely into the high 70s and low 80s.

April through October is mostly dry, but November through March will have a small share of rainfall to ensure everything grows green and lush.

What are the cheapest times to visit Maui and find the best deals?

Shoulder seasons offer the best deals, so look to visit in spring and fall, in between summer vacationers and winter breakers.

If you’re flexible on arrival dates, you may notice off-peak rentals may be as low as half the price compared to in-demand holidays. To save the most, book your getaway during weekdays, and fly in and out during the week instead of the weekend. That will save you some change no matter the time of year.

Are there any travel restrictions in place?

If you are traveling during the pandemic, be sure to review Hawaii’s latest travel protocols and know that entrance requirements change often in response to new health data.

At present, all incoming travelers — regardless of vaccination status — are subject to pre-travel testing to bypass a 10-day quarantine.

Travelers must register with the State of Hawaii Safe Travels program and obtain a test through specific trusted testing partners prior to arrival on the islands. Maui may also soon impose a second post-travel testing, so be sure to stay up to date on the latest traveler guidelines.
